Looking For PCOS Naturopath in New Paltz?

You may have been told your labs look normal, or that one medication is the whole plan. Neither answer explains why your cycle is unpredictable or why your energy drops by mid-afternoon.

A PCOS naturopath looks at the full picture. That means your hormones, blood sugar, stress, sleep, and everything you have already tried. At Remedy Naturopathics in New Paltz, NY, Dr. Tonya Pasternak, ND, gives you a 60-minute first visit and builds on the work you have already done.

This page explains what PCOS is, how naturopathic PCOS care works, and what happens when you book.

What Is PCOS ?

PCOS stands for polycystic ovary syndrome. It is a hormone and metabolic condition. The name suggests ovarian cysts, yet cysts are not what drives it.

In May 2026, a global group of health organizations announced a new name: polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome, or PMOS. Both names will be used for several years, and a past PCOS diagnosis carries forward unchanged. The Endocrine Society estimates that the condition affects 1 in 8 women.

PCOS involves several body systems at once. Reproductive hormones such as testosterone, insulin and blood sugar, and the signals between your brain and ovaries all play a part. That is why two women with the same diagnosis can feel very different. A plan works best when it looks past your cycle alone.

Who Can Benefit From PCOS Support?

Naturopathic care for PCOS may suit you if any of these sound familiar:

  • You have a PCOS or PMOS diagnosis and want more than a single option.
  • Your cycles are irregular or absent, and your labs were called normal.
  • You take medication for PCOS and want support that works alongside it.
  • You are hoping to conceive and want to understand what affects ovulation.
  • You want to know how your blood sugar, thyroid, and stress levels fit in.

It may not be the right first step if you have sudden severe pelvic pain or very heavy bleeding. Those symptoms need a medical provider first. Naturopathic care also does not replace your primary care provider or your gynecologist.

Signs and Symptoms of PCOS

PCOS does not look the same in everyone, and it can appear in women who are lean as well as in those who are not. You may notice:

  • Irregular, infrequent, or missing periods
  • Acne that keeps returning
  • Hair growth on your face or body that you did not expect
  • Thinning hair on your scalp
  • Strong cravings and energy crashes after meals
  • Trouble getting pregnant, or not knowing whether you ovulate

Mood, sleep, and fatigue often change too. Many people describe feeling that their body is working against them while every test comes back fine. These are signs worth raising with a health professional. A diagnosis comes from your primary care provider or gynecologist.

How Naturopathic Care Supports PCOS

Naturopathic PCOS care starts with finding out what is driving your symptoms. After that, your plan may combine several tools, each with a clear purpose.

Testing that fills in the picture

Dr. Pasternak reviews the labs you already have, then may recommend more. Testing can include blood work for thyroid function, blood sugar, and cholesterol. Hormone testing such as the DUTCH test or a ZRT saliva panel may also be used. Many standard labs can be run through insurance, while specialized testing is usually out of pocket.

Nutrition and blood sugar

Insulin and blood sugar sit at the center of PCOS for many people. Naturopathic care for PCOS includes individualized nutrition guidance focused on steady energy and metabolic health. It is built around foods you will actually eat.

Herbs, supplements, and hormone support

Targeted herbal and nutritional support may help your hormones find better balance when your history and labs point to a need. It is one part of PCOS support, never the whole plan. Dr. Pasternak also uses individualized hormone-supportive therapies where they fit. Every supplement is chosen with your medications in mind.

Stress, sleep, and daily rhythms

Stress and short sleep can affect both hormones and blood sugar. You learn practical tools for each that do not depend on adding another pill.

The goal is more predictable cycles, steadier energy, and a clearer understanding of your body. Results vary from person to person.

What to Expect at Your Visits

Your PCOS care follows a simple rhythm, and you are never locked into a schedule.

Your first visit: a full intake

You spend about 60 minutes reviewing your health history, symptoms, goals, and any labs you bring. Please bring recent bloodwork and a list of your medications and supplements. If more testing would help, Dr. Pasternak explains why before you decide.

About a month later: review and adjust

Your second visit looks at new results and how the plan is working. You leave with a written plan and clear next steps.

After that: at your own pace

Follow-up timing depends on your needs. Some people check in every few months. Others return only when something changes.

Our Approach to PCOS Care

Dr. Pasternak starts every PCOS care plan with what you already have. Past labs, earlier workups, and treatments you have tried all count. She looks for trends over time and for results that sit inside the normal range yet far from what feels right for you.

She also puts choice in your hands. You get options laid out clearly, with the reasons behind each, and you decide together. You do not have to pick between natural and conventional care. If you take medication or see a gynecologist, your plan fits alongside that care.

Education is part of every PCOS visit. You leave knowing what is happening in your body and why each step is in your plan.

Why Choose Remedy for PCOS?

Remedy Naturopathics is a small, independent practice, and that shapes how your PCOS care feels.

The clinic and the Remedy apothecary are both at Water Street Market in New Paltz. The apothecary stocks the products Dr. Pasternak uses in her own practice, so you can ask about them in person.

Appointments are unhurried. Your first visit runs a full hour, and later visits leave room for your questions. Because you see Dr. Pasternak herself, the person who reviews your labs is the person who builds your plan.
